Kansas City has two airports (though MCI is the primary), a compact metro, legendary barbecue, and one of the loudest stadiums on earth. Arrowhead hosts six 2026 World Cup matches, including an Argentina group-stage fixture, a Round of 32 on July 3, and a Quarterfinal on July 11. That QF is one of only four in the entire tournament. Compared to NYC, LA, and Dallas, KC gets less of the international attention, which is exactly why many fans are choosing it: cheaper hotels, easier parking, and a tailgate culture that will make any group stage match feel like an NFL Sunday.
A Tesla rental is the right call. KC's transit is functional downtown with the streetcar, but useless for Arrowhead. Eon handles MCI airport pickup, hotel delivery into the Power & Light District, and the option to take the car to St. Louis, Omaha, or Denver between matches.
Arrowhead sits at the Truman Sports Complex in eastern Kansas City, off I-70 at Blue Ridge Cutoff. It shares parking with Kauffman Stadium (the Royals) across the lot. Matchday logistics are relatively simple by World Cup host city standards, but tailgating is intense and lots fill early.
This is serious. Kansas Citians tailgate for football; they will tailgate harder for a World Cup match. Lots open early and the scene is half the experience.
From downtown or the airport, I-70 East to the Blue Ridge exit is the direct path. It backs up on matchday but not the way NYC or LA do. Plan 35-45 minutes from downtown on matchday.
Arrowhead runs red, yellow, and gold lots. Pre-booking through the official channel is worth it for FIFA matches. The lots are well-organized but not infinite.
Arrowhead volume: Arrowhead set the Guinness record for loudest outdoor stadium at 142.2 decibels. For a group stage World Cup fixture with neutral fans, it won't hit that, but the acoustics make even average crowds feel thunderous. Worth the trip for the atmosphere alone.
Six Arrowhead matches including an Argentina fixture and a July 11 Quarterfinal.
Kansas City hotels will sell out before the Tesla fleet does. Book your car first.
Missouri and Kansas are both largely toll-free. The one exception is Kansas Turnpike (I-70 west of the metro toward Topeka and Wichita), which uses cash, K-TAG, or license plate billing. For the vast majority of World Cup visitors staying inside the KC metro, tolls are a non-issue.
Kansas City's Supercharger coverage is solid for metro driving and strong for road trips along I-70 and I-35.
The default KC rental. Cargo for tailgate gear, range for an overnight to St. Louis, and AWD for a rainy July matchday.
Solo or couple travelers. Efficient, easy to park in the Power & Light District.
Family or group of 5-6. Roomy, climate that handles KC's July humidity.
If the point of the trip is tailgating, the Cybertruck is the lot centerpiece. Expect to meet the rest of your section.
KC is centrally located for Midwest exploration. Useful options between matches:
MCI's international footprint is limited. Most international visitors will connect through Dallas, Chicago, or Atlanta. For broader context, see our international visitor rental guide. KC-specific notes:
KC has less international pressure than NYC or LA, but it also has less rental supply. Six matches in a city of this size pushes local availability fast. See the rental shortage breakdown for full context. If KC is part of a multi-city trip, the team-chaser plan has the I-70 corridor sorted.

Pick your downtown base, book the Tesla, and make sure you have dinner reservations at Joe's KC on Leawood. If KC is part of a larger tour, the 11-city World Cup guide is the starting point.
Yes. Eon supports MCI pickup. Hotel delivery to downtown, Power & Light, and Plaza hotels is also available. Free delivery is included on monthly subscription bookings.
The Guinness record is 142.2 decibels, set at Arrowhead. For a World Cup group stage match it won't hit that, but the horseshoe design makes crowd noise exceptional. Worth showing up for the sound alone.
Downtown to Arrowhead is 15-25 minutes off-peak. On matchday with tailgate parking, leave three to four hours before kickoff. Most of that is for tailgating, not traffic.
Yes, in lots that permit it. This is one of the defining tailgate cultures in North America. Check your lot's rules when you pre-book.
Most World Cup visitors base in Missouri because Arrowhead, downtown, and most hotel density are on the MO side. Kansas (Overland Park, Lenexa) works if you're hunting lower prices or quieter suburbs.
Not for metro driving. The Kansas Turnpike (I-70 west past Lawrence) is the one paid road in the region. Eon Teslas in KC come with toll-by-plate billing. Confirm at pickup.
Downtown V3 stations or Country Club Plaza. Avoid the closest-to-stadium option on matchday. I-70 East past Arrowhead has stations if you're staying east of the complex.
Yes. I-70 East, 3.5-4 hours, well-supercharged. A one-day round trip is tight. Better as an overnight.
21. Drivers under 25 pay a young-driver fee. A valid U.S. or international driver's license is required.
No. Protection options are available at booking. Arrowhead parking lots and tailgate scenarios make standard coverage worth a look.
